The Value of Belonging To An Online “Group”

There is a blog we subscribe to here at ReproMAX, it’s called “Writing Without Bullshit” and it provides a good amount of valuable information that applies not only to writing but business in general. You are required to ask to gain entry to the group—it’s really an online newsletter.

What struck a chord was an article titled “Crowds, wisdom, and becoming a Bitcoin blackmail authority”. The author starts out talking about his experience with the current trend in Bitcoin blackmail and how he has been subjected to this occurrence, how he has dealt with it and what his experience has been. His posts on this subject have netted him a goodly number of views. Thus, his blog has become “a focus of the wisdom of the crowd on Bitcoin blackmail.” He goes on to explain how he belongs to other online groups that are incredibly helpful.

But what was relevant was his observation that some online groups/crowds are good for you and some are bad for you. The groups that are good for you do valuable things if you have a shared interest.

The best groups share a common interest and a culture of generosity. They provide support and answer questions. Groups like this can pop up anywhere online now — the platform doesn’t matter so much. What matters is starting with an idea, and the support of the group for that idea. Whether we’re blackmail victims, authors, or people losing weight, we feel for the other folks in the same boat. We contribute. Trolls aren’t welcome, and they wouldn’t enjoy hanging out with us anyway — we’re boringly, annoyingly helpful.

And that’s what we do here at ReproMAX. We try to provide you with a crowd or community where everyone can--collectively--be boringly, annoyingly helpful.

We hope it’s as boringly, annoyingly useful as it can possibly be for the member companies!
